    Peters announces a new U.S.-Mexico border crossing at Yuma


    Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters said a new border crossing at Yuma, Ariz., will make cross-border access easier.

    YUMA, Ariz. — U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters said today that local communities and businesses across the nation stand to benefit from increased trade under a federal program that makes it possible for U.S. trucks to enter into Mexico.



    Peters made the statement at a news conference here to announce a new U.S. Mexico border crossing at Yuma.



    The cross-border demonstration project allows U.S. companies to travel into Mexico to make deliveries and pick-ups, giving them the ability to compete in Mexico’s growing markets and take advantage of new business opportunities, Peters said.

    The part that stands out is where he talks about American truckers being able to pick up loads to bring back once they drop off loads in Mexico. How long does it take to do the math on how fast companies take to catch on to the fact that Mexican truckers can drop off a load, then take a load back to Mexico while earning much less than American truckers. I have a feeling American truckers are about to get squeezed...
