Immigrant rights advocates angry over Wednesday's worksite raids say they now want to press ahead with a May 1 work stoppage and economic boycott in Arizona.

"I think it's outrageous that when so many families are living in fear of being separated the government would launch a campaign to instill more fear," said Roberto Reveles, president the Somos America coalition, which organized the massive April 10 pro-migrant march and rally in Phoenix

The coalition had backed away from supporting a nationwide work stoppage and economic boycott called for May 1, fearful it would hurt workers and fuel a backlash.

But Wednesday's worksite raids, which resulted in the apprehension of hundreds of undocumented workers nationwide, including 35 in Phoenix, caused organizers to consider reversing their decision, Reveles said. Organizers plan to meet tonight to finalize their plans, he said.
