A former Nogales, Sonora, police officer accused of killing his commander has been returned to Mexico after he was discovered in custody at the Pima County jail under another name.
The U.S. Marshals Service, in conjunction with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, transferred Jose Domingo Felix-Cervantes to the custody of the Mexican Federal Investigative Agency on Tuesday at a Nogales port of entry, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Twohey.
Felix-Cervantes, 35, was wanted by the Sonora State Investigative Police in the June 2006 shooting. According to investigators, Felix-Cervantes was on duty when he got into an argument with his commander, pulled a gun and shot his commander five times. The commander was killed and another officer was wounded by several shots that went through the commander.
In 2007, a fugitive task force investigating the case determined that Felix-Cervantes was already in custody. Under the name of Alfredo Victor Gonzalez Beltran, he was arrested with four others on drug-trafficking charges after being caught with 100 pounds of marijuana, firearms and $40,000 in cash.
