PHOENIX - Police have identified four protesters who were arrested Wednesday after demonstrating against Arizona's new immigration on a 200-foot construction crane in downtown Phoenix.
A fifth suspect was also arrested for helping the climbers scale the massive crane in order to unfurl a banner denouncing SB1070.
Phoenix Police Department spokesman James Holmes said Cesar Maxit, Chelsea Ritter-Soronen, Megan Swoboda, Julie Ferris and Perea Dexter were all taken into custody after climbing the crane near Central Avenue and Jefferson Street about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Approximately 30 Phoenix officers and 25 firefighters had to be called in to shut down Central Avenue for about three hours to ensure the climbers reached the ground safely.
Air15 video showed two people in harnesses hanging from the arm of the crane suspended over the street. The other two could be seen standing above on the crane.
They eventually unraveled a sign reading 'Stop Hate' protesting SB 1070 and 287g.
