Poll Finds Public Safety Most Important in Georgia Governor's Race

A recent poll shows Georgia voters consider public safety the most important issue in the governor's race.

The poll commissioned by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also shows voters list education, lower taxes, health care, illegal immigration and protecting the environment as key issues in the governor's race. Ninety percent of voters listed those issues as priorities.

The contenders in the governor's race are Republican Governor Perdue, Democratic Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor and Libertarian Garrett Hayes.

Voters seem less concerned about the Republican-backed push to require voters to show a photo I-D at the polls. Only 60 percent of voters list it as an important issue.

The telephone poll of 625 likely voters was conducted September 27th to September 29th by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research.

The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus four percentage points.
