LAPD arrests 9 in immigration march

LAPD arrests 9 in immigration march that blocked Westside traffic

    May 20, 2010 | 1:18 pm

The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested at least nine demonstrators who blocked Wilshire Boulevard Thursday as part of a immigrant rights march.

The protest jammed traffic in Westwood and surrounding communities, with both Wilshire Boulevard and the 405 Freeway affected. Metro announced that some bus routes were being detoured. California Highway Patrol Lt. Steve Strull said officials want to clear traffic so ambulances headed to Reagan-UCLA Medical Center are not delayed.

Nancy Meza, 23, a UCLA student who is scheduled to graduate in three weeks with a degree in Chicano studies, said the civil disobedience was organized in an effort to push for passage of the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, commonly known as the DREAM Act.

The DREAM Act is federal legislation that would provide certain undocumented alien students who graduate from U.S. high schools and have been in the country continuously for at least five years before the bill's enactment the opportunity to earn conditional permanent residency.

The students would obtain temporary residency for a six-year period. Meza, who said she arrived in the U.S. from Mexico when she was 2 years old and is undocumented, said it was the legislation was needed to ensure that students like herself would eventually be able to work.

    NO AMNESTY

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

    Chicano studies???

Yeah, that's the way to assimilate.

Our citizen college graduates have no jobs either, so go back to your own country and complain.

I think every illegal immigrant that has got a college education in the U.S. has stolen the education of American citizens. Too bad there isn't a way of American citizens filing a class action suit against these thieves and our government for allowing it.

IMHO this was a good thing for us.

How many people were further delayed today while these children stamped their little feet and threw a temper tantrum?

All this is doing is waking Joe sixpack and Suzie soccermom up.

Hopefully Ms "chicano studies" will be sitting on the other side of the border on graduation day. Oops I forgot about special order 40.

(The article does not say but hopefully no-one died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital)
Illegal, or unlawful, is used to describe something that is prohibited or not authorized by law

Take your taxpayer funded education to mexico and teach there, where you can maybe do some good.
Having a degree in Chicano studies is like having a degree in Ku Klux Klan studies, not worth the paper it's written on. Chicano and other racist studies should be banned.

If the Arizona law was in place this racist parasite would be on her way back to her beloved Mexico.

I had a relative who tried to sue Miami Dade College. In order for her to have instates tuition she was needed to be a dependent of a legal resident or citizen and have proof of it and the college has a list of items for proof. Her father was a legal resident and was sponsoring her to get hers. She was told that she was an international student and had to go back to Canada and get a visa etc. There were 2 others in the waiting room who heard the counsellor tell her that. First the Jamaican girl mentioned her situation and thought she would be told the same which she was. When the last one made the comment that she was the same and from Colombia the counsellor said maybe not, the conversation changed to Spanish and they went to the office. My relative was angry. When the case of the Gomez brothers who were illegals as well as the parents and that they were all going to be deported came out and that the sons went to Miami Dade College we were angry. Then they ended up deporting the parents and allowed them to stay pushing the dream act. Then there was an article about a family from Peru whose daughter to that college and just last year 2 brothers were also allowed to stay pushing the dream act after the parents were deported. Then they regularly have protests to push for amnesty and many of their students go and some claim to be illegal. You would think with all this being in the media that a lawyer would take my relative's case. No one would and the comment most often heard was we don't want to offend the Hispanic community. She now works as a police dispatcher and is waiting to apply for citizenship. Once she gets it she wants to become an ICE agent to deal with all the in justices others have to go through as she did.
