    Internship, Reform Immigration FOR America
Campaign to Reform Immigration for America
    Washington, DC

    ORIGINAL JOB LISTING

About the Campaign: The campaign to Reform Immigration for America (RI4A) is a large coalition of local and national organizations that has come together to encourage Congress to pass comprehensive humane immigration reform. The campaign is working on multiple fronts -- generating policy recommendations, reaching potential supporters through a coordinated on- and offline field campaign, and raising issue visibility in the media.

A critical piece of the effort is building a large email and mobile list of supporters that can be mobilized on a moment's notice to support the passage of good immigration policies. The anti-immigration movement has been organizing their base for years, and recently mobilized over a million supporters to help pass damaging and inhumane anti-immigration policies. In order to win the passage of just and humane immigration reform, we must organize supporters in a coordinated way, both on and offline, to ensure that the progressive viewpoint is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill.

Position overview: We are seeking 1-2 interns to start in mid-January. The ideal candidate will be a fast learner with a passion for furthering the cause of immigration reform. Previous experience working with coalitions and distributed teams successfully is a plus. The intern will report directly to the RI4A Online Communications Director. This position will be housed at the Center for Community Change offices on U Street in Washington, DC.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    * Personally reply to constituents responding to our SMS and email messaging
    * Analyze internal metrics and create weekly data reports
    * Work with the RI4A web team to maximize the campaign's reach online -- including website traffic, blog coverage, social network reach, etc.

    What youll learn:

    * The latest in cutting-edge online organizing techniques, working with one of the hottest political issues in 2010
    * How to work with a diverse and mutli-lingual community, much of which cant be reached by traditional outreach efforts
    * Rapid design, development, and execution of complex SMS and email campaigns
    * Communication in a interdependent environment with field, legislative, and communications staff
    * Key technologies that campaigns and non-profits are looking for experts in

We are looking for someone who is:

    * At ease with technology.
    * Skilled at data collection and analysis, proficient with Microsoft Excel
    * Knows basic HTML, CSS and image manipulation.
    * Able to keep pace with a fast-moving campaign, able to respond to events as they happen, and maintain attention to detail, all while keeping the big picture in mind.
    * Committed to the passage of just and humane immigration policy.

We prefer someone who is also:

    * Able to write compelling email copy, with an understanding of what makes some emails more effective at generating action than others.
    * Is able to code HTML, CSS or MySQL
    * Familiar with Democracy in Action or similar program (Blue State Digital, Convio, Capitol Advantage, Get Active, etc)
    * Familiar with best practices in list segmentation, message personalization, and email response tracking.
    * Familiar with online organizing practices, including social network and blogger outreach.
    * Experience with Google Analytics, particularly as it applies to tracking ad campaigns
    * Familiarity with online advertising, including blogads, traditional banner advertising, and search engine marketing.
    * Able to speak and write Spanish.

Though unpaid, this position includes a $100/month travel stipend.
