Undocumented Students Stage Hunger Strike

A week-long hunger strike for undocumented students continues at a Hispanic bookstore in Phoenix.

The fast supports legal status through the federal Dream Act and opposes Arizona's Proposition 300, which requires illegal immigrant students to pay higher out-of-state tuition.

"Some of these people could be the teachers we need in this state, the nurses we need in this state. We're not in the best shape in education… to let go of these people," said ASU student Luis Avila.

Avila said seven people are participating in the hunger strike. Approximately 300 others linked by the Internet are giving up things important to them, including cell phones and video games.

Congress could vote on the Dream Act this fall.
