    Reform is coming on immigration

    Reform is coming on immigration

    By Morton Kondracke 2:00 a.m. January 9, 2009

Given last year's election results, major immigration reform ought to pass in 2009 โ€“ but first, the incoming Obama administration has to decide what to do about some Draconian policies put into place by the Bush administration.

After failing to pass its own reform bill in 2007, the Bush administration launched a policy of high-visibility workplace raids, mass deportation and rigorous employment verification designed to show it was tough on illegal immigration.

President-elect Barack Obama denounced the raids during the campaign, but canceling George W. Bush's policies could open the new administration to charges that it's โ€œsoftโ€

Already, the recession has caused large-scale dislocations, business closings and housing foreclosures in Hispanic communities, giving some immigrants-rights advocates hope that economic arguments โ€“ if not only humanitarian ones โ€“ will persuade the Obama administration to cancel Bush's policies.
Its always all about them, last time I checked this was an American Problem that effects more Americans than just Hispanics.
