A bill introduced by Rep. Walter Jones, NC this week would require the United States to build the 700-mile U.S.-Mexico border fence before mid-2009.
The bill would authorize all necessary money to do the job with American workers. That was estimated at between $2 billion and $4 billion when the fence was authorized in October 2006.
The bill is gaining support, including that of other representatives from North Carolina. Figures from the Pew Hispanic Center show that North Carolina has at least 300,000 illegal immigrants, the eighth highest in the 50 states.
