Sullivan says Bush 'doesn't seem to get it' on illegal immigration
This is great! Rep. John Sullivan (R-Okla.) and a cousin of mine on my Mom's side has just introduced a bill that would target illegal immigration in a much more serious way by rounding them up not just in border areas but across the country. This bill would expand mandatory deportation of illegals nationwide. Sullivan's bill comes just a day after Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff told a Senate committe that the government would stop the 'catch and release' program but also said the nation needed a temporary worker program. Sullivan's bill, H.R. 4079, the Secure our Nation’s Interior Act of 2005, went further, however.
As reported in The Oklahoman today, Tulsa Republican John Sullivan was "(f)lanked by other conservative lawmakers at a Capitol Hill news conference, Sullivan said the 'catch and release' practice of federal immigration 'must give way to deter and remove.' Sullivan said he opposes any type of amnesty because that is what his constituents want.
As he said in the bill, "In my district, residents complain as truckloads of illegal aliens are released into their neighborhoods rather than being detained. Border towns are not the only areas affected, as illegal aliens are constantly finding new areas in the interior of our country to reside.
Sullivan also said in the bill that it is important that the federal government, charged with protecting our borders, "will have a choice between taking immediate custody of illegal or criminal aliens, or paying for their continued local detention.
At the press conference, Sullivan was clearly not pleased with President Bush, who has been incredibly laxidasical when it comes to securing the borders. Sullivan said Bush "doesn't seem to get it." Sullivan hit the nail on the head. POTUS simply doesn't care what a majority of Americans want done to make our country safer. I'm glad to see Rep. Sullivan and others see a need to take action.

"Deter and remove." I love it! Has a nice ring, don't it?
