Report: Migrants Attack Two New Yorkers After Throwing Objects at Pedestrians

A group of migrants, staying in a taxpayer-funded shelter, are accused of violently attacking two New Yorkers who intervened to stop them from throwing objects at pedestrians.

In late May, Mayor Eric Adams (D) announced plans to begin housing border crossers and illegal aliens at the former Lincoln Correctional Center, a 10,000-square-foot facility. The jail was closed in 2019 by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).

A group of migrants staying at the old jail were caught throwing objects at pedestrians on Sunday morning, according to the New York Post. When two New Yorkers sought to intervene, they were brutally attacked by the migrants, police said.

The first man, 35 years old, confronted the migrants but was allegedly kicked and punched in response. The man tried to run away to safety but the group of migrants took off after him and eventually pushed him through a glass door, an eyewitness told the Post.

A second man, 41 years old, also tried to intervene but was similarly beaten up. New York Police Department (NYPD) officers arrested one of the migrants but were unable to locate two other suspects as they rode off on scooters.

“Everything was good until that asylum building came,” a resident living close to the jail-turned-migrant shelter told the Post.

Since the spring of last year, more than 90,000 border crossers and illegal aliens have arrived in sanctuary New York City. The majority, about 55,000, are living off local taxpayers in city-run hotel rooms, shelters, and other facilities.

Two New York City men who attempted to intervene when migrants outside a shelter started throwing objects at people on the sidewalk in Harlem, were hospitalized, with one being pushed through a glass door on Sunday morning, according to reports.

The New York Post reported that witnesses and police claim the violence started at about 9:45 a.m.

Police reportedly heard that several individuals were attacking pedestrians by throwing objects at them.

Police and witnesses told The Post that the group of people attacking pedestrians were migrants living at the former jail on Central Park North, which was converted into a shelter for those seeking asylum.

The former jail is also close to where the violence broke out.

Police said a 35-year-old man exited his apartment and confronted the group, but ended up getting punched and kicked by the attackers before they pushed him through a glass door.

The 35-year-old man was tended to by emergency responders and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Another man who intervened was beaten by the attackers before being transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police told The Post one person was arrested in the incident and charges were pending. Two other suspects who fled on scooters were also being sought by officers, The Post reported.

One security guard at the former correctional facility told The Post he saw the fight with the migrants and a man who intervened.

The security guard saw the man get chased by several migrants for about a block until he was backed into a glass door of an apartment building.

"He went to, I guess, find safety," he told The Post. "Instead, they pushed him into the glass and pulled him out as he was trying to get away."

The New York City Police Department did not respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital on the matter.

New York City has been overwhelmed by tens of thousands of migrants pouring into the five boroughs over the past year.

According to the Mayor’s office, over 90,000 asylum seekers sought shelter in the city to date. Most of the migrants entered the U.S. from the southern border.

Over 50,000 migrants are currently being housed in New York City, and officials revealed last month that the city was at a "tipping point."

Last week, Mayor Eric Adams announced the city did not have any more room to house asylum seekers.
