The man who escaped from Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) is back behind bars Wednesday.

Rafael Juarez-Rodriguez was arrested in Taos but escaped ICE agents in Espanola Tuesday afternoon. Five schools in the area were placed on lockdown while agents searched for Rodriguez.

At around 11:30 p.m. authorities received a tip Rodriguez was in the Taos area and had been seen leaving a home in a red truck.

Officers found the truck and made a traffic stop. Two women, one in her 50’s the other in her 30’s, got out of the truck. The suspect at first refused to come out of the vehicle and was hiding under some blankets in the back seat.

Officers were eventually able to get the man out of the truck; he then identified himself as the person who had escaped.

Rodriguez had a handcuff on his right wrist and the other cuff had been cut off.

Police arrested Rodriguez and both women. The older woman may face aiding and abetting charges. Investigators have not confirmed whether the two women knew Rodriguez.
