TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The Florida Restaurant & Lodging
Association is opposed to permitting destination casino resorts in
the state.

The influential trade organization has joined a growing list of
opponents to such legislation. It's one of three key policy issues
on a legislative agenda the association announced Friday.

The group also opposes state legislation to curb illegal
immigration and legalize a tax break claimed by online hotel
booking companies. The latter issue also is the focus of several
lawsuits.

Association president Carol Dover said defeating all three
proposals is critical to maintaining a pro-family, pro-business and
pro-tourism environment.

Besides tourism interests, resort casinos are facing opposition from religious conservatives and existing gambling interests. Those include horse and dog tracks, jai alai frontons and the Seminole Indians who run casinos on tribal lands.
