BEFORE YOU CONDEMN RAHM EMMANUEL READ THESE LINKS

This morning's NY Times trumpets a new S-CHIP vote tomorrow, one that tightens eligibility requirements so as to make certain that any children whose parents are undocumented will be unable to get health care. The new bill tightens eligibility for the program, generally barring the use of federal money to cover illegal immigrants, childless adults and children of families with incomes exceeding three times the poverty level: $61,950 for a family of four. "The bill addresses all of the concerns that were expressed by our colleagues and by the president," explained Speaker Nancy Pelosi. "We hope the Republicans will take yes for an answer." Fred Upton (R-MI), one of the almost 4 dozen Republicans who voted to override Bush's veto last week, said the changes improve the bill enough to sway more Republicans. Hey, maybe they will even get reactionary Democrats Jim Marshall (GA) and Gene Taylor (MS) aboard this time.

This isn't the first time Emanuel has publicly encouraged Democrats to take right-wing stances on immigration. Basically, he has told everyone willing to listen that this is his advice. As I have written before, he has told multiple people I know that this is the reason he thinks so many Democratic women lost close races in 2006. As Howie Klein recently reported, he also appears to have disgusted several Democratic candidates for House in 2008 by recently telling them all at the training to do the same thing this year.

This is a step in the right direction. We should not be responsible for all the world's children. These giveaways need to stop NOW!

This may be a very important first step in dismantling the 14th Amendment. Any child born on US soil should not automatically be a citizen especially if the parents are not here legally, and may be here for more nefarious reasons than sending remittances back home.

More mis-reporting by the Times. What they mean are minor illegal aliens who were born outside the USA, not anchor babies. The only way they could cut off anchor babies is to stop giving them citizenship, and I don't see the Dems ever doing that.

Haven't checked the bill, but heard on the radio today it is to include eligible "children" up to age 30.

Why? Children (?) are eligible for social security under the circumstances that would have them still with parents @ 30.

The way I read it is if the parents are "undocumented", the children will not be eligible.

Considering that minor children are not heads of household and have no income, the parents must meet eligibility.

The pro-illegal crowd are not happy with Emanuel's appointment. Many articles are being written by the Hispanic media regarding Emanuel's mention that Obama will take on immigration on his second term. Univision reported that many pro-illegal activists are nervous about Emanuel's appointement and believe that Obama will screw them.
