PROVIDENCE—A former clerk at the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles was convicted of making fake drivers’ licenses that were sold to illegal immigrants and criminals.

A federal jury deliberated for about 90 minutes on Wednesday before finding Dolores Rodriguez LaFlamme guilty of conspiracy, aggravated identity theft and producing fraudulent identity documents.

Sentencing is set for Feb. 20.

Prosecutors argued at trial that LaFlamme, a former license clerk, made 35 fake drivers’ licenses that she then sold through middlemen for as much as $2,700.

LaFlamme’s lawyer said another employee had LaFlamme’s computer password and used it to create the phony licenses.

LaFlamme, 41, who is from the Dominican Republic, has been detained since her October 2007 arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
