PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Immigrants' rights groups are planning a rally at the Statehouse to call on Gov. Don Carcieri to rescind his executive order that cracks down on illegal immigrants.

In Rhode Island, groups including the Center for Hispanic Advocacy and Policy and Ocean State Action say immigration reform is a federal responsibility, not a state one.

They want an end to Carcieri's order.

They also want to stop legislation making its way through the General Assembly that would do everything from require employers to use a federal database to verify workers' legal status to making it a felony to rent a home to an illegal immigrant.
