Silent protest at PC marks Tancredo talk

Providence College students, some of them wearing paper-plate masks they say symbolizes diversity, listen to former congressman Tom Tancredo speak outside the school’s gates.



PROVIDENCE — An estimated 300 Providence College students protested silently Wednesday outside the school gates against former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, and against Youth for Western Civilization — the group that sponsored Tancredo’s visit.

The students — who wore multicolored paper-plate masks, which they said represented their diversity — stood in silence as Tancredo said the concept of Western civilization is “under attackâ€
