Rio Grande City Agents Arrest Two Sex Offenders
Rio Grande City Agents Arrest Two Sex Offenders
Release Date: October 20, 2020
EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande City agents encounter two Mexican nationals with extensive criminal history.
Yesterday afternoon, Rio Grande City agents arrested a Mexican national, later identified as Martin ACEVEDO-Gallegos, during a failed human smuggling attempt. During processing, record checks revealed a previous arrest by the Rio Grande City Police Department (RGCPD). RGCPD charged him with indecency with a child.
The man was subsequently convicted of the crime and was sentenced to one year confinement.
Additionally, ACEVEDO-Gallego has several immigration violations, and arrests by state and local law enforcement. Past criminal convictions include driving while intoxicated, and drug possession, where a judge sentenced him to five years incarceration.
This morning, Rio Grande City agents working in Roma, Texas, arrested four subjects shortly after they illegally entered the United States. During processing, record checks identified him as Jorge MENDEZ-Gonzalez, a Mexican national. Additionally, his record revealed multiple arrests that include one by the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated sexual assault. A judge subsequently sentenced him to five years in jail.
Border Patrol processed both subjects accordingly.
Since October 1, 2020, Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested 11 illegal aliens previously convicted of sexual related crimes.
The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
