Rocky Mountain Poll doctored to give McCain big lead over Hayworth

A new Rocky Mountain Poll, put out by the left wing Behavior Research Center on the JD Hayworth v. McCain Senate race has skewed the voters surveyed so much in order to favor the more liberal McCain, I am surprised media outlets are giving it much attention. Instead of surveying "likely Republican voters," which would realistically predict the actual outcome of the primary, the poll surveyed one-third Independents and two-thirds registered Republican voters. Independents are generally split down the middle between Republican voters and Democrat voters (who could choose to vote in the Democrat primary instead, which has at least one realistic candidate), so they are going to favor the more liberal candidate, and are not as likely to vote as Republicans – and certainly not as likely to vote as likely Republican voters. "Likely" Republican voters are those voters who have a proven history of actually voting regularly in the last few elections. The reputable polling company Rasmussen Reports, which has issued a couple of polls in this race, showing McCain as risking defeat due to low numbers as an incumbent, only surveyed likely Republican voters.

The only debates that McCain will agree to participate in with Hayworth take place this Friday and Saturday. McCain has spent $6 million on this race so far, mostly on unfounded attack TV ads against Hayworth. McCain entered the race with a leftover warchest of $5 million, including $1.1 million from convicted Ponzi scheme criminal Scott Rothstein's victims, which he has refused to return to the victims since he would rather put the money into attack ads against Hayworth. Hayworth has spent hardly anything, relying largely upon the support of Tea Parties and the conservative base. Hayworth has a lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union over his 12 years in Congress of 98%, the same rating as the most conservative member of the Senate, Jim DeMint. McCain has an 81% rating which dipped to a low of 63 in 2008 when he voted for the billion pork TARP baillouts and accompanying $150 billion in earmarks. McCain has falsely accused Hayworth of earmarking, but every single accusation involved earmarks that other members of Congress attached to bills – not JD! McCain himself has attached several earmarks to bills, such as for defense jobs in Arizona. After Hayworth gets some TV time from the debates, Rasmussen should do another poll of likely Republican voters to get a more realistic view of how the primary is going to turn out.
