Romney takes tough line on immigration

Speaking in Tampa, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney tried to show he is tougher on immigration than his chief rival, Rick Perry

    St. Petersburg Times

TAMPA -- With Rick Perry proving to be a serious threat to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, the former Massachusetts governor swung through Tampa on Friday to exploit what some Republicans see as Perry’s Achilles’ heel: immigration.

“We must stop providing the incentives that promote illegal immigration,’’ Romney told more than 100 people attending a Republican Hispanic conference. “As governor, I vetoed legislation that would have provided in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants and I strengthened the authority our state troopers had to enforce existing immigration laws.â€

Just Perry entering the race has really made immigration the important issue it should have always been. Immigration got pushed down in 2008 and ignored.

So true, Dixie, so true. If Republicans want to fix our country, we should nominate someone who will and the first step to fixing the US economy is stopping illegal immigration and reducing legal immigration. Track records are crucial to know who will do it versus who just wants to talk about it to get elected. Romney has a good track record on illegal immigration.

gotta admit...this is an easy line of attack on Perry. His financial backing comes from Bob Perry, homebuilder,a menopause doctor Dr. Hotze of "Conservative Repubs of TX." ,fundamentalist Leininger of San Antonio & billionaire,Charles Butt of HEB grocery chain. They made a few calls, especially persistant NORMAN ADAMS who sells insurance to contractors a total control freak. They got'ur'done killed sanctuary at the 99th hour. I hope Mitt Romney gets more info on this as Perry deserves what's coming. Made a video TX. Ruling-Class: Immigration Enforcement Blocking.
