GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A woman working at a Greenville hotel is accused of using an Iowa’s woman’s name and social security number to get her job.
Police say Maria Luisa Calixto, an illegal alien, applied for a job at the Courtyard Marriott in Greenville.
Police say Calixto, 33, used a counterfeit resident alien card and gave the name Yessinia Ibarra when she applied.
According to police, Calixto also gave the last four digits of Ibarra’s Social Security number, which were cleared through the E-Verify system.
Police say Calixto was hired and was paid for 15 months of work at the hotel.
Police were made aware of the situation after Ibarra tried to get unemployment benefits in Iowa and was told she couldn’t because her Social Security number was being used in South Carolina.
Police are investigating the possibility of a black market in the Upstate for stolen IDs.
Greenville police Officer Alia Urps said, “She said that she was in a store and overheard people talking about how to get information. She was given a telephone number and from that number she contacted an unknown individual. She paid the individual $400 and the individual provided information which we know was stolen.â€
