S.C. poultry plant manager indicted (Update)
Thu, Jul. 10, 2008 S.C. poultry plant manager indicted
A top manager at a House of Raeford Farms poultry plant has been indicted as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged immigration violations.
Elaine Crump, human resources director at the company's Greenville chicken processing plant, was indicted by a federal grand jury on 20 felony counts charging that she instructed employees to use fraudulent employment eligibility forms.
Crump was arrested Wednesday and released after posting a $25,000 bond. She could not be reached for comment. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines for each count.
House of Raeford officials said they're reviewing the indictment. “The company has complied with all requests for information and will continue to cooperate fully with State and Federal authorities,â€Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

The former supervisors have said the plant prefers undocumented workers because they are less likely to question working conditions for fear of losing their jobs or being deported.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Charges dropped for former
Columbia Farms managers
2 completed diversionary program in illegal workers case

Two former managers of a Greenville poultry plant raided by immigration agents have had federal charges against them dropped after completing a pre-trial diversionary program.
A U.S. District judge in Greenville dismissed immigration fraud charges against Elaine Crump and Barry Cronic after they completed the one-year program, court records showed Friday.
A grand jury indicted the two on charges that they knowingly hired illegal aliens and encouraged them to falsify immigration forms.
The dismissals are part of a broader settlement the federal government reached last year with Columbia Farms Inc., which required the company to pay the government $1.5 million to settle all criminal, civil or administrative claims that are pending or could be brought against the company as a result of a federal investigation.
In the settlement, the company agreed to change its employment practices.
Prosecutors said the federal investigation into Columbia Farms' hiring practices began in December 2007.
At the time, Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators began reviewing the company's I-9 employment eligibility verification forms and supporting documentation for suspected violations.
Following an October 2008 workplace raid, federal officials said they prosecuted 21 supervisory employees who they said were hired with false documents, and more than 300 employees were deported for being in the country illegally.

It's a vicious cycle - and it shows why Lamar Smith is wise to begin with E-Verify and worksite enforcement.

I hope A****k Farms is next, in Batesburg, SC. Almost every application I see list them as their employer.
We some sort of target system for companies we know are hiring illegals.
