Salazar reponds to ICE raids- includes interactive map

    Staff Reports
    December 12, 2006

10:54 a.m. update: U.S. Senator Ken Salazar, D-Colo., has responded regarding reports that thousands of Swift & Co. employees have been detained on charges of identity theft and immigration law violations.

“ICE’s action at multiple Swift plants today is a clarion call for the nation to complete its work on comprehensive immigration reform. We need to have laws in place to take us from today’s chaos and lawlessness to law and order. That law and order system must include: increased border security, strict enforcement of immigration laws including a sound employer verification system, and a realistic method of dealing with the human and economic reality of millions of undocumented workers in America.

“This past year, the Senate passed bi-partisan legislation to address our broken borders. The House of Representatives had an opportunity to enact a law and order system. Unfortunately, they chose not to. The impact of their inaction is not limited to the immigrant community. Today’s action at Swift will have a strong ripple effect on the rest of the livestock industry. Weld County is the most profitable agricultural county in Colorado, with over $1 billion in agricultural sales. Today’s move by ICE will greatly impact the economy there.

“The tragedy of continual inaction towards comprehensive immigration reform has both human and economic consequences. It is what happens when we have a do-nothing Congress which refuses to act. What is happening at Swift today sends a strong signal to Congress that we must act with all due speed to enact comprehensive immigration reform. When Democrats take control in January, I hope today’s occurrences will motivate us to act.”

What about the House bill was not comprehensive? It included both enforcement and deportation and funding to pay for it. What more do you need?

Salazar is a down right idiot.
    With a saying like.
Today’s move by ICE will greatly impact the economy there.
He has no concern over there fraud and the impact that these Illegals aliens have on Citizens that had there Social Security numbers stolen. Maybe we should give Illegals his info, so they can use his Social Security numbers

That'll fix the problem...make them all legal....right?? WRONG! There will still be ID fraud and lots more illegals who won't qualify for amnesty, and it will become a LOT more difficult to find them since they will be swimming in a sea of "legals." What's to keep these plants from going thru the present guest worker channels?? Any GW programs have to be on a individual need program like the ones in existence at present.

    Translation

Salazar says that today's ICE raid should have never taken place because Congress should have legalized all of the illegals in the plant before now.

Perhaps someone should explain to Mr. Salazar that the raid had nothing to do with their immigration status---it was due to rampant IDENTITY THEFT!

    Senator!

YOU are just as sickening today...as you were yesterday. NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

It's people like YOU that are a disgrace to this country!!!
Please help save America for our children and grandchildren... they are counting on us. THEY DESERVE the goodness of AMERICA not to be given to those who are stealing our children's future! ... and a congress who works for THEM!

Gee Mr Salazar we already have laws in place. No enforcement but we have the laws. Maybe you could focus your efforts on enforcement if you are really concerned about "today's chaos and lawlessness"?
