SAN ANTONIO - A local woman is accused of housing illegal immigrants at her home, according to a criminal complaint.

31-year-old Crystal Perez is who police say was renting her home to people who were housing undocumented immigrants.

According the arrest warrant for Perez, she would receive 50 to 100 dollars for each person that stayed in her home. And, she admitted to authorities she would also pick up money transfers for the smuggling payments, also receiving 50 to 100 dollars for each transfer she collected. Neighbors were shocked to hear this could be happening just feet away from them.

Authorities say Perez committed these crimes beginning on or about July 23rd. Which is the same date that we reported 39 undocumented immigrants were found in a semi-trailer at a Walmart on the city's southwest side, 10 of them died. Thursday, San Antonio police and officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement say Perez’s case is separate from that one.

Crystal Perez, 31, is accused of keeping the undocumented immigrants at her home for a price of $50 to $100 for each person.

Investigators said they began investigating Perez in July of 2017. When she was questioned, she admitted to getting paid $50 for each illegal immigrant and $100 for the last person she would pick up, according to arrest papers. She added she would later turn those people over to another smuggler.

She is now charged with smuggling of persons. The case was investigated by the San Antonio Police Department.

It was also in July when 10 people died inside a sweltering trailer parked at a Southwest Side Walmart store.

James Matthew Bradley, Jr., of Florida, later pleaded guilty to federal charges smuggling illegal immigrants. He faces up to life in prison.
