An alleged illegal immigrant faces deportation after police accuse her of stealing another woman's identity in order to get a job and avoid tax issues.
Cramerton Police arrested Sofia Granados DePaz, 51, Tuesday on a charge of identity theft.
She allegedly used the name of another person and her date of birth to "conceal her illegal immigrant status," according to the warrant.
"Defendant used victim's name, date of birth and Social Security number to obtain employment at Pharr Yarns in McAdenville," Sgt. W.B. Adams wrote in a warrant affidavit.
DePaz allegedly began using the other person's identity on Dec. 8, 2003, according to the warrant.
DePaz of the 400 block of Columbia Street, Gastonia, was booked into Gaston County Jail under a $10,000 bond. However, she also has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, which would prevent her from being released from custody.
The alleged victim in the case lives in Harlingen, Texas, according to the warrant affidavit.
Harlingen is located in the Rio Grande Valley, near the border with Texas.
