CHARLESTON, SC (AP) - Authorities have charged a Michigan woman with transporting illegal immigrants in South Carolina.

The (Charleston) Post and Courier reported Tuesday that 34-year-old Melissa Sue Segura has been charged under the South Carolina Illegal Immigration Reform Act approved by lawmakers last year. She's believed to be the first person charged under that law.

Segura and six Hispanic males were inside a minivan when police stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation Saturday. Officers found $4,000 in cash in the woman's purse and a list that had 15 Hispanic names and monetary values beside each name.

Segura was being held Tuesday at the Charleston County Detention Center on $26,050 bond. A man who answered the phone at the jail said he didn't know if Segura had an attorney.
