Workers At SoFi Stadium In LA Authorize Strike, Wanting Protection From Immigration Authorities

It’s a hell of a thing when potential illegal aliens are going on strike thinking that it will stop anythingSoFi stadium workers in L.A. authorize strike ahead of World CupSo, is the union saying that SoFi Stadium is knowingly employing illegal aliens in violation of federal law? Huh. And the union is trying to protect people who are breaking US laws by striking before the soccer games? Or, is that just a sidebar and what they really want is a ton of extra money, failing to understand that it just means that prices for attendees will go up? Because Legends Global and FIFA can’t do a damned thing about illegals being rounded up.
A union representing 2,000 workers at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles that has demanded protection from possible immigration enforcement during the World Cup voted Friday to authorize a possible labor stoppage just a week before the U.S. team’s opening match.
Unite Here Local 11 is demanding premium wages during the 38-day tournament from stadium food service operator Legends Global and FIFA, soccer’s international governing body, along with guarantees that workers will not be subject to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detentions.
Union members overwhelmingly approved the strike authorization, with 96 percent supporting the measure, union officials said in a news release. The action does not mean they will immediately walk off the job, but it provides them the green light to do so at any time. The union said it will continue negotiations with Legends Global and FIFA on Monday.
Maybe DHS should investigate SoFi Stadium after the World Cup to check their compliance with federal immigration law.“They should not be there,” Yolanda Fierro, who helps staff the stadium’s luxury suites, said of ICE officers during an interview ahead of the vote. “We want fair wages that we think we are due, but the other thing we want is the security and safety of employees and guests. If we cannot get those things, our folks are ready to walk. Let them run the stadium without us.”Well, Yolanda, ICE won’t be there for arresting illegals, unless they are involved in human trafficking, drug running, and other nefarious crimes.
Human rights groups, international fans and immigrant communities in the 11 U.S. host cities have raised concerns that the Trump administration’s hard-line immigration policies could dampen enthusiasm around the first World Cup to be played on American soil since 1994 and subject some fans to unnecessary detentions and arrests. They would prefer that those involved in human trafficking, usually women and children, and left to their own devices.
