Sebastopol's police department is now recognizing Mexican consular ID cards as valid identification, a move that could keep some illegal immigrants from landing in jail, where they would most likely be flagged by federal immigration officials.

Police officers in California have the authority to arrest drivers who cannot provide valid identification, and Sebastopol officials have strictly enforced that law, Police Chief Jeffrey Weaver said.

The city's new policy of accepting a consular ID card (known in Spanish as a matricula consular) will affect a “very small group of people,â€

Sounds like the Irish and the Eastern Europeans had better start issuing Id cards to keep up with the Mexicans.

That's actually a very good point. What's stopping every country from issuing some sort of "consular id" to their illegal brethren? I wonder how our government would react to such efforts.

Or maybe the question should be why haven't other countries followed with some sort of identification to their illegal invaders? After all, we’re told illegal invaders are not just from mexico, but from all over the world. Does this privilege only extend to mexico?

You see where this goes don't you. If every country were allowed to issue some sort of counselor id to their illegal invading brethren to prevent deportation, then immigration law has essentially been neutralized in this country.

What if an illegal Chinese (could be any country) invader presented a Chinese Consular ID card? Our government would almost be obligated to accept it because of the extraordinary efforts they have made in mainstreaming the Mexican counselor id card.

In California only legal American citizens are required to obey the rules and laws. We have some of the strictest rules in the nation on minors even getting a license, yet we give a pass on illegals.
