Lou Dobbs Tonight
Thursday, June 19, 2008

Tonight, weeks into the crisis involving salmonella-tainted
tomatoes, the Food and Drug Administration continues to fail
Americans. The FDA says it suspects the tomatoes came from
Florida, Mexico, or both. But those sources account for most of
the tomatoes sold in the U.S. And the FDA still has yet to send
out a single inspector to a single farm.

We’ll have that story, the latest on the Midwest floods, and
all the day’s political news. Plus:

* The Bush administration has demonstrated stunning
incompetence in addressing our nation’s huge trade imbalance
with China and China’s manipulation of its currency to maintain
a strategic advantage. Of course, these trade concerns did not
stop the administration from moving forward on a bilateral
investment agreement. Democrats in Congress say major decisions
about trade policy with China should be left to the next
president.

* California is about to ban the use of the valuable E-Verify
system by state agencies and local governments. A bill has
already passed the state assembly and is now being taken up in
the state senate. The legislation also tries to persuade
private employers not to use the system, which merely confirms
the legal working status of employees.

* The technology industry constantly complains that there are
not enough qualified tech workers in this country to fill the
available jobs. But a new study finds something very different
– that the industry is using H-1B visas to flood the U.S.
market with cheap foreign workers at a rate far greater than
the job growth in the sector.
