Sen. Lankford on DACA: 'We as Americans do not hold children' accountable parents’ actions

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) on Monday responded to a report that said President Trump will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, saying the United States does not “hold children legally accountable for the actions of their parents.”


“It is right for there to be consequences for those who intentionally entered this country illegally,” Lankford said in a statement. “However, we as Americans do not hold children legally accountable for the actions of their parents."


The statement comes after Politico reported Sunday that Trump has decided to end the program, which temporarily prevented the deportation of undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as minors and pursued work permits, with a six-month delay.


Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers have urged Trump not to terminate the program. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said last weekthat Trump should not end the program and that it is up to Congress to address DACA.



"We must confront the nation's out-of-date immigration policy and finally resolve the issues of strong border enforcement and merit immigration,” Lankford said.“Policy reform must come from the American people through Congress. The Legislative and Executive Branch should put aside passivity and partisanship and finally modernize our immigration laws.”


Trump centered his presidential campaign around a strong immigration policy, vowing to build a wall on the United States-Mexico border and to end DACA immediately if he were to be elected.

Further evidence of the huge numbers of illegal aliens, many more than 11 million, the power of the lobbying groups, the republicans need for the financial support from their donors who say they need them.

Senator Lankford is a representative of American citizens, yet he too, has now chosen foreign citizens here illegally to side with against his own.

Llankford is an idiot. We are not holding them "accountable", we're deporting them to their home countries because they're in the wrong country, no papers, no stay, no matter what your age or how you came here or what you've done since you got here. When visa workers leave, they take their kids. Same as when American take their kids to foreign job sites, they don't get to stay there, they leave or are deported out of there.

Send them home and let them apply to come her legally like everyone else has to, each individual needs to apply. If they have a police record or gang affiliations don't accept them. This is the only way we can actually know who is in our country and track them. They can afford to pay someone to sneak them in the country illegally now they can apply to come here and pay the fees; the way they should of to begin with. Why should we be any different than any other normal country. We have the right to know who is here.
