Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff faced a skeptical audience Wednesday as he defended his agency’s immigration policies before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Chertoff outlined the department’s accomplishments in increasing security along the U.S.-Mexico border, and taking steps to implement an entry-exit processing system at all U.S. ports of entry by June 2009.

Sounds like there is no longer a quota on how many people can become citizens in a year.

1 Million is way too many considering the IA problem we presently are dealing with.

Ted Kennedy and others are isolated from what most citizens face every day. They get to go home to their guarded compound estates.

Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., noted that the processing time for citizenship applications has increased from seven months in January 2007 to 14 to 16 months, adding an additional 580,000 applications to the backlog – despite an increase in application fees in July 2007 that was supposed to enable the department to reduce processing times.

As a result, many applicants hoping to be sworn in as citizens in time for the Nov. 4 presidential elections will not be able to cast ballots.
Leave it to Ted "blubber boy" Kennedy to bring up the issue of legalizing immigrants. I suspect Teddy's main interest is in getting more votes for the Democrats in November.
