Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies were serving a search warrant at a business in North Phoenix on Wednesday morning.

Sheriff's Office investigators suspect some of the employees used fake identification to garner employment at the steel fabrication business on
West Williams Drive near 21rst Avenue in North Phoenix.

PHOENIX - Maricopa County sheriff's deputies raided a steel fabrication business in north Phoenix Wednesday morning to search the records of employees who are suspected of being illegal immigrants and using fraudulent documents to get jobs.

Sheriff's spokesman Brian Lee says the raid at Ameri-Fab was made as a part of an investigation into whether the business operators broke a civil law by knowingly hiring illegal immigrants.

Lee says investigators got a tip several months ago from a former employee who alleged that people were using false identification to get jobs there.

A man who answered the phone at the Ameri-Fab and refused to give his full name had declined to comment.
