Sex Offender and Gang Member Arrested at Border

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents arrest a gang member and a sex offender.

Early Tuesday Morning, McAllen Border Patrol Station agents working in Mission, Texas, apprehended six adult migrants after they illegally entered the United States.

Among the group was a 22 year old male from El Salvador who is a confirmed member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang. The Salvadoran national’s criminal history included assault charges out of Washington, D.C. The criminal migrant has multiple removals from the United States.

Early this morning, Border Patrol agents working in Rio Grande City, Texas, arrested 12 adult subjects after they illegally entered the United States. At the station, criminal records checks identified Benito Gomez-Lopez, a 33 year old Mexican male, as a convicted sex offender. Gomez-Lopez was arrested by the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department in North Dakota, in 2020 for possession of certain prohibited materials and promoting a sexual performance by a minor. Later that year, he pleaded guilty to both counts and was sentenced to three years confinement. The criminal migrant was repatriated to his country in July 2020.

Border Patrol processed the subjects accordingly.
