I predict the harmony will disintegrate sometime during the next school year.

Sharpton Promotes Racial Harmony in L.A.

    Tuesday August 2, 2005 1:31 AM

    By MICHAEL R. BLOOD

    Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Rev. Al Sharpton announced Monday he was forming a coalition to promote racial unity between blacks and Hispanics in the city, hoping to ease a long-running rivalry over jobs, housing and schools.

``Neither community can be what it needs to be unless we are together. We are not each other's enemies,'' Sharpton said at a news conference. ``We cannot turn on each other at a time that there are those that exploit, oppress and suppress all of us.''

Sharpton called for a range of public activities aimed at bringing attention to the shared interests of blacks and Hispanics, from community forums to church visits to radio appearances. The group, the Latino & African-American Leadership Alliance, plans a march later this month on the anniversary of the Watts racial riots.

He said he was particularly concerned about conflict in schools. At one high school last spring, a series of fights was blamed on tension between black and Hispanic students. One fight was so serious police needed batons and pepper spray to break it up.

The activist minister made the announcement seated beside his co-chair, Christine Chavez, a union organizer and granddaughter of labor hero Cesar Chavez. Asked about the shortage of prominent black or Hispanic leaders at the event, Sharpton said, ``You have to begin the process and others will come forward. I don't think that you want to do everything in one day.''

``We are not depending on the traditional groups that blacks have depended on in the past, such as Jesse Jackson ... the NAACP. They are welcome to join us,'' said community activist Najee Ali, who is the California chair of Sharpton's National Action Network.

It wasn't immediately clear how much time Sharpton would spend on the project, or the extent of his responsibilities as co-chair.

Franklin D. Gilliam Jr., a political scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles, said the formation of the group was another sign of growing alliances between blacks and Latinos. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the son of a Mexican immigrant, was elected in May after stripping significant black support from incumbent James Hahn.

As for easing racial tensions, ``Is the Sharpton-Chavez coalition the best way to go about it? I don't know about that. I think the effort is as much symbolic as substantive - Sharpton doesn't really have a constituency in Los Angeles,'' Gilliam added.

Villaraigosa's office did not respond to phone calls seeking comment.

Oh you have that right, Judy

Oh but he should have got my letter about this yesterday. It really is not about race at all. It is all about, people of all races that seems to take the american people for granted and our fellow americans that are African American should be mad that illegals are taking there jobs. And i am backing them 100% to show there dislikes that illegals from below our southern border. Are taking from them and I don't think Mr. Al will have much influnce on them. The damage is done. The only way to heal the problem is to deport the problem back from where it came from.

Wow. With Al Sharpton on the job, things should improve dramatically in no time. He does a lot to improve "race relations" like the time in the early 90's when he led a mob of nasty black thugs through Harlem to "protest" Korean businesses there. His mob called Asians "yellow monkeys" and other sweet names, and demanded that they leave "their" (black) nieghborhood.

This is the caliber of human we're talking about when we talk Al Sharpton.

He needs to keep his wide black behind in New York.

I don't understand why blacks need leaders. Why is Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton so important to them? They should act as individuals and tell Jesse and Al to take a hike. They're bloodsuckers.

And let's not forget his instigating the Freddies Fashion Market arson, where at least one person died, as well as running the Tawana Brawley fraud.

You'd think these actions would be enough to disqualify a person of such low character from the public eye, but the media just can't get enough of Fat Al.
It's like hell vomited and the Bush administration appeared.
