An Arizona sheriff is offering his solution on how to take politics out of the issue of illegal immigration.

Last week Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) failed to muster the 60 votes needed to break a Republican filibuster and move forward with passage of an amendment-laden Defense Authorization bill. When Reid saw that the bill would not pass, he voted against it himself so he would be able to bring the bill up for a vote again later.

One of the controversial measures attached to the defense bill was the DREAM Act, which would have given a fast track to U.S. citizenship to some illegal aliens. The move was seen by some as an attempt by Reid to give citizenship to potential voters so they could help in his re-election bid in Nevada, where polls show him in a dead heat with Republican challenger and tea party favorite Sharron Angle.

Larry Dever is serving his fourth term as sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona, where his work puts him on the front lines with those trying to prevent people from crossing illegally over the U.S.-Mexico border. He says this issue is far too politicized.

"It's no longer a discussion about homeland security. It's no longer a discussion about public safety. It's no longer a discussion about community welfare," the sheriff laments.

So Dever says he has a solution on how to take the politics out of the equation -- make citizenship impossible for illegal aliens. He explains how it might work.

"If you broke into this country illegally, you can never be a U.S. citizen unless you sneak out the same way you snuck in and stand in line behind all those people who are trying to do it right," he shares. "And if not, if you want to come out of the shadows, as the Obama administration suggests, you'll never be a citizen and you'll never have the right to vote."

Dever believes that would be the litmus test for cornering decision-makers who always argue it is "humanitarian" to push amnesty for illegal aliens.

They don't want citizenship, they want duel citizenship. To avoid prosecution.

They could care less about getting US citizenship, they jiust want the green cards that will let them continue to suck us dry.

The only solution is enforcement and deportation!

99% of the problem would solve itself if our govt issued a statement that there will be no more amnesty and our laws were going to be fully enforced

e verify mandatory , workplace raids , no match letters , I9 investigations
no more catch and release period , no more anchor babies

Within 10 years the problem would be solved at a minimal cost to the govt

Troops on the border (WHICH IS NOT A POLICE ACTION)
The military is mandated to protect the homeland

Of course they would get violent in some of their bigger communities but the guard and police could handle that.

America needs to stop giving handouts and start treating them like the criminals that they are.

Yeah if we did all those things or any of those things they stumble over each other to get out of here. Why our gov. won't make E-verify mandatory seems criminal to me. All the tax money that these states lose out on from these IA's getting paid under the table has got to be taking it's toll. And the employers are the worst criminals because they wouldn't come unless some was paying them. I sure miss my job.

This is EXACTLY RIGHT! This one paragraph, if implemented would solve the problem. Unfortunately, the special interest groups an la raza racist have infiltrated our government and are determined to make this issue about race as opposed to a simple rule of law issue, for which it is.

Of course, the third-world and ignorant illegal invaders have taken to this approach like mouths to light, which has empowered them to march down our streets, while waiving foreign flags, demanding rights and privileges - privileges and demands which should never be entertained for even one second!
