PHOENIX (AP) - The Obama administration plans to announce Tuesday that it will send as many as 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to improve border security, an Arizona congresswoman said.

I served 13 years in the Pennsylvania National Guard, first as an aircraft mechanic and then as a computer technician (I consider my time in uniform to be among the best experiences of my life). Over those years, I volunteered for various missions from turning wrenches in Kuwait to inspecting projects in the White House. I also inquired about deployments to the Mexican border, but never received orders to go there.

National Guard troops on the Mexican border will be tasked with "show of force", just as 9300 of us did in Washington D.C., for the most recent presidential inauguration. http://www.ourmilitary.mil/Content.aspx ... ectionID=1 Show of force means little to no training, no weapons, and no authorization to do anything of consequence. You are simply there to augment the existing "real" security apparatus by making it look bigger than it really is.

But hey, I'm sure the daily per diem will be great.
