We need to follow this. Once Smithfield is in compliance it can be our "preferred provider." We need to post their non-complying competitors for boycott. We can give the edge to a legal producer that way.

    sent this:

I was pleased to hear that Smithfield is following the law regarding illegal aliens. My family first became aware of the great numbers of un-inspected workers back in April. We no longer buy meat products or eat in restaurants. Let me know when you are in compliance and there will be Smithfield ham and pork with our rice. I will also attempt to make Smithfield a "preferred provider" of the activist orgs I belong to and boycott illegal employer's products.
    Thanks

Sent an email. Glad to see they are bending to pressure to follow the law.

Do you believe Smithfield Meat Packing is racist and discriminatory in requiring that employees have valid Social Security numbers?

Just got a call from someone in the attorney generals office
who deals with identity theft. She agreed that if the 50 who
were fired used another person's social security #, it would
be identity theft under NC law, but there was some legal speak
about \fraud I didn't understand. Apparently, the laws had to be
tightened to apply equally between identity theft for fraud &
identity theft for purposes of obtaining employment.

She had not seen the N&O stories & she requested I email
the links which I will. I asked her is she was surprised the
AG's office was not asked for a repsonse & she said 'yes'
given the fuss the AG has made over identity theft.

Seems the yes responses are on the rise. The labor union must have found out about the poll.
