McALLEN, Texas - Two South Texas residents were sentenced on Saturday for leading a smuggling ring that brought at least 250 illegal immigrants into U.S. from Mexico.

Hortencia Sanchez-Rodriguez, 38, was sentenced to five years in prison and Emilio Anguiano-Santoyo, 37, received five years and three months. Both defendants are Mexican nationals who lived in Roma, about 55 miles west of McAllen.

Federal investigators said the pair arranged transport into the country and on to Houston, paying guides to help the immigrants sneak around Border Patrol checkpoints.
