Immigration Rights Group Takes Issue With Hard-Line Stance Of Butler Co. Sheriff

Leaders of Latino and Caribbean immigration rights organizations are gathering in Cincinnati this week.

Their goal is education on why United States immigration laws need to be changed.

The four-day conference is being sponsored by the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC).

Members are taking issue with the hard-line stance of Butler County's Sheriff Richard Jones.

Sheriff Jones has continually stated he's going to enforce existing laws because undocumented workers are in this country illegally.

"Rather than contributing positive solutions that truly make us all better, we only see more fuel being put on the fire," said Oscar Chacon, NALACC executive director. "That's why we object to his comments."

The immigration rights groups say current laws are obsolete, unjust, broken and need to be fixed.
