NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Starbucks says it plans to hire 10,000 refugees over five years in the 75 countries where it does business.

Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz outlined the company's plan in a memo sent to employees Sunday in response to President Trump's executive order banning travel from seven Muslim majority countries.

"We are living in an unprecedented time," Schultz wrote in the memo, which listed several actions the company says it is taking to "reinforce our belief in our partners around the world."

The refugee hiring proposal, Schultz wrote, will begin with a focus on people who have served with U.S. troops as interpreters and support personnel.

Schultz also reiterated Starbucks' support for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which helps undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children get driver's licenses, enroll in college and secure jobs. The program was created by President Obama through an executive order in 2012.

And Schultz said the company is "ready to help and support our Mexican customers, partners and their families" should any proposed trade sanctions, immigration restrictions and taxes affect their businesses.

"We are in business to inspire and nurture the human spirit, one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time," Schultz wrote. "That will not change. You have my word on that."

Schultz is the latest business executive to weigh in on the travel ban. Earlier Sunday, General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt wrote to employees that he shared their "concern" over the order, and added that GE has many employees from the countries named in the ban.

Several tech executives have also publicly denounced the travel ban.

Who did you think your primary customer base was Starbucks? Meryl, Cher and George? No, it was Trump Supporters.

    Why don't they hire 10,000 homeless people? 10,000 Veteran's?

Damn Straight! Shut 'em down. These traitors have to be taught a HUUUGE lesson that the American Consumer will not longer tolerate company policies or statements that favor foreign nationals above US citizens, foreign workers above American workers, refugees fresh to the soil over unemployed Americans who have been waiting in line and on-line for years for a nice job with a nice company.

NO. It ends right here, right now.

Probably because the Americans would be unable to obtain work Visas for 74 of those 75 countries.

I can't for the life of me understand why these companies haven't figured out that their involvement in politics, more times then not, only ends up damaging their bottom-line. Why would anyone with a good business sense alienate half their customer base?

Starbucks Stock in Freefall After CEO Disses Trump and Promises to Hire Refugees

    Jim Hoft Jan 31st, 2017 11:41 am

Democrats and liberal media outlets shed major crocodile tears this past weekend after 109 of 325,000 foreign passengers were detained at US airports over the weekend.

This was very odd because Obama banned Iraqi refugees for six months in 2011 and Democrats said nothing.

On Monday Starbucks Corp CEO Howard Schultz announced that the company would hire 10,000 refugees over the next five years to ease the company’s conscience.

    This announcement violates EEOC rules.

And several conservatives have vowed to boycott the liberal coffee company.

Now the Starbucks stock is in freefall since the announcement.

Starbucks dropped at least 3 points in the last two days.

You're right, artclam!! He actually said hire 10,000 refugees around the world. Good catch!!

I'm boycotting them anyway, though. He should have kept his mouth shut at a time like this.
