DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO – Pete Wilson: father of the downtown San Diego renaissance or agent of intolerance?
Those contrasting viewpoints are resurfacing with the upcoming installation of a statue honoring the former San Diego mayor who went on to the U.S. Senate, the governor's mansion and a bid for the White House.
More than 200 donors contributed $200,000 to pay for the Wilson statue, which will be unveiled Aug. 25 outside the NBC building at 225 Broadway. Donors see Wilson as the visionary mayor who helped jump-start Horton Plaza and revitalize the Gaslamp Quarter.

Prop 187 was passed overwhelmingly by California voters. It would have denied any benefits to illegal immigrants and if that crooked Court hadn't declared it unconstitutional California taxpayers wouldn't be having their pockets picked by illegal aliens! Horton Plaza is a perfect setting for a statue of Pete Wilson who in my opinion championed the citizenship in this State. When it goes up I'll make a special trip to San Diego to leave a card of appreciation at the statue.
