The SCHOOL didn't ban the flag.
6 students ban the flag from their office lobby area.

The flag ban was approved 6-4 (with two people abstaining) on Thursday by the Associated Students’ Legislative Council. It banned the U.S. flag and all other nations' flags from the common lobby area of student council offices.

New Mexico students vote for a Communism-themed prom

    Published March 06, 2015FoxNews.com

Students at a New Mexico high school voted for a Communism-themed senior prom this year -- calling the event "prom-munism."

Seniors at Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School in Albuquerque voted online for this year's theme, KRQE News 13 reported.

But some students say the idea, while meant to be funny,
    is no laughing matter.

"I would hope Cottonwood would realize the seriousness of having a very powerful and destructive idea as the theme for a prom," one student told the station.

"While the seniors meant no harm in their choice of theme, it is not appropriate," said another.

The prom is expected to take place at the Albuquerque Aquarium on April 25. School officials have not yet approved the idea -- with some saying they are not sure what the event is supposed to look like.

UC Irvine Student: US Flag Banned to Avoid ‘Triggering’ Hurt Feelings Among Illegals

IRVINE, California — Students at the University of California Irvine (UCI) spoke to Breitbart News Sunday, sharing their shock and disappointment at recent legislation by six members of UCI’s Associated Students (ASUCI) to remove an American flag from their building’s lobby this past Thursday.

A student who spoke with Breitbart News on condition of anonymity that she heard a member of the ASUCI discussing “the [American] flag and how it triggered people.” She then said she believed a major line of reasoning behind the legislation to remove the flag could have been a “precautionary step” to prevent a trigger situation where if someone is an “illegal citizen or [they] have citizenship issues, it makes them feel bad.

“But me and my friends were like, ‘Dude, you’re in America. It’s the American flag,'” she added.

The issue, according to her, was that the flag was placed in a common space, and she felt that if it were placed in a private area like a personal office, it would not have been a big deal. “And then there were people who were like ‘the flag triggers me’ — that was their exact wording, too.”

She added: “Everything can be a trigger. How far is it going to go? If everyone says something bothers them about a shared space then that could be a problem because then there will be nothing on any walls.”

UCI student Matthew Guevara, who sits on the Student Association board, authored the resolution (R50-70) to ban the U.S. flag from the association’s lobby wall. The resolution passed narrowly on Thursday in a 6-4 vote in favor, with two abstentions, but was overturned and vetoed on Saturday during a private meeting held by the Associated Student’s Executive Cabinet by a 4-1 vote.

UCI administrators also issued a statement on Saturday following the vote to ban the flag, stating that they do not endorse what they described as a “misguided decision” by a political minority that they claim is not representative of the school nor the broader student body.

An anonymous student told Breitbart that the removal of the flag took place “respectfully. They folded it in the military style and wrote a little note saying they didn’t want it up.” However, she said, she and her peers were still shocked..

“I don’t think they properly represent the interests of average students,” said Chris, a recent UCI graduate who did not want his last name to be used. He said that schools “talk about how America is a patriarchal and colonial power and all the bad stuff but they totally miss the good stuff about this country.”

Chris told Breitbart that he found it “frustrating to see how ASUCI is using our money… and this legislation highlights that. This has no relevance to average students’ lives or what we’re doing on campus, so it just feels like a waste of our time and money.”

UC Irvine is a publicly-funded university. On Friday, State Senator Janet Nyugen (R-Orange County) she was considering the introduction of a state constitutional amendment to prohibit “state-funded universities and college campuses from banning the United States flag.”

We need to prohibit the admission of illegal aliens to our colleges and universities. It's unfair and totally wrong to expose American students to this type of foreign disgruntlement, ignorance and lies about our country while they try to work and go to college to get their degrees. There is no point to borders or billions of dollars being wasted by DHS on NOT doing its job if state and other public colleges and universities open their doors, classrooms, scholarships, financial aid, student governments, policy, dormitories and other activities and places to foreigners in our country in violation of US immigration law. It's no different than forcing American kids to attend college in a foreign, communist, socialist or third world banana republic school against their will.

The parents of our students aren't paying these outrageous sums for higher education to end up with this, this isn't what they want when they save for decades and help their kids go to college. They don't want them in an environment where they're worried about "triggers" over illegal immigration, they don't want them associating with other students who hate America yet won't leave because they love the benefits of a country they hate, they don't want their most precious members of their family afraid of fellow students and potential "triggers", confused or upset by their political beliefs, or in any other way belittled, intimidated or angered by other students who shouldn't even be in the college in the first place because they aren't supposed to be in the country to begin with.

Stop this nonsense. Do not let illegal aliens take seats in our colleges and universities away from our American Kids and ruin the experience for those who are fortunate enough to get a seat. It's time to stop all this foreign influx into US colleges and universities. No good is coming from it, not any. It needs to stop, so more American Kids can get seats in our colleges and universities and all our students can have a happy, comfortable, reassuring higher education, free from harmful competition, lies and opinions from foreign students who shouldn't even be here to begin with.

U.S. flag back on display at UC Irvine after override of 'misguided' student council ban

Update: Will UCI student officials veto U.S. flag ban today?

IRVINE – UC Irvine’s student council today may again take up a controversial issue that has garnered national attention, but members are unlikely to remove the U.S. flag again from the body’s lobby.

Last week’s decision to ban any nation’s flag from the group’s office has become a hot topic around the country, even trending on Twitter. UCI’s offices have been inundated with complaints. And dozens of readers have emailed, called or written to the Register.

Campus police have investigated threats on campus.

Tonight, the Associated Students of UC Irvine’s legislative council is expected to discuss the issue again, but it is unclear if the item will come back for a vote.

On Saturday, the group’s executive cabinet vetoed the lower council’s decision and the flag went back up. It would take a two-thirds vote of the student council to overturn the veto. And at least three of the six members who initially voted for the flag ban now say they won’t override the veto.

“We meant no ill will towards our nation nor its flag, and our school truly does not deserve the image placed on it in the public sphere,” wrote the three students on the ASUCI Facebook page. They did not return emails.

The three students said they initially voted for the resolution as a way to make the office inclusive and to stop the infighting.

“It was our intention to resolve the problem for our fellow ASUCI members by reverting things to the way they were before the dispute began, when the common space had no flags present and there was no surrounding conflict,” the three wrote.

Since Thursday’s original decision, the UCI Police Department has investigated threats against the university and individual council members who voted for the ban. But none were found to be credible, UCI spokeswoman Cathy Lawhon said.

Some students had brought the flag issue to the council after one student put up the U.S. flag on a common wall in the lobby tucked deep inside the campus, which then kept being taking down.

Khaalidah Sidney, who helped author the resolution, wrote an opinion piece in the student newspaper, the New University, stating that some classmates saw the U.S. flag as “being triggering to students who are undocumented and to whom the flag represents a constant struggle to gain American citizenship, being a triggering symbol of U.S. imperialism and neo-colonialism and also as potentially disrespectful to the increasing international student population.”

She hasn’t responded to emails for comment.

On Sunday, Chancellor Howard Gillman put out a statement that criticized the students’ resolution.

“It was outrageous and indefensible that they would question the appropriateness of displaying the American flag on this great campus,” Gillman wrote. “The administration swiftly, strongly, and publicly denounced the action ...

“Make no mistake: The American flag proudly flies throughout the University of California, Irvine, including outside my office window, and will continue to do so.”

On Monday, 11 state lawmakers said they would introduce a Constitutional amendment that would prohibit public colleges and universities from banning the U.S. flag on school property. If passed by the Legislature, the measure would go before voters in November 2016.

Public responses ran from disappointed to venomous and were occasionally racist or vulgar. A number of readers suggested that tax money be withheld from the university, and some wanted no-flag-in-the-lobby supporters to be suspended or expelled.

Eleanor Flynn, 84, is from Anaheim and was born in Canada and became a citizen because her father served in the U.S. military in World War I. She said she feels “blessed” to be an American and can’t fathom how people would dishonor the flag.

“It’s not fair after all the people who have died for this country,” she said.

Bob Scherer, 70, of Santa Ana, said his father fought to defend the flag in World War II and his son is in the military.

“It just got me mad that six students from a school that my taxes support had the gall to take down the American flag,” he said.
