By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Friday, March 20, 2015

The illegal immigrant charged with killing an “America’s Next Top Model” contestant was only in the U.S. because President Obama had granted him amnesty under the 2012 policy for so-called Dreamers, two senators revealed Friday afternoon.

Emmanuel Jesus Rangel-Hernandez was first arrested on drug charges and was set to go before an immigration judge, but he had his deportation case closed after he was granted amnesty, or “deferred action,” in late 2013, according to documents Sens. Charles E. Grassley and Tom Tillis released.

The young man has now been charged with three counts of murder stemming from the February slaying of three persons, including Mirjana Puhar, who had appeared on the “Top Model” show last year.

“This raises serious concerns about USCIS’s review and approval of other DACA applicants and points to potential vulnerabilities in the system,” the two senates said in a letter demanding more information on the amnesty.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is the agency charged with approving the applications for “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,” the program Mr. Obama announced in 2012 to grant tentative legal status to so-called Dreamers, or young adult illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. They are generally deemed the most sympathetic figures in the immigration debate, but recent reports suggest many of them have gotten into serious trouble with the law even after having been approved for the amnesty.

In Mr. Rangel-Hernandez’s case, it appears he had a run-in with the law before he was approved as well, but was granted deferred action status anyway.

I'm sorry but this doesn't "raise concerns", this proves the concerns that were already raised which have always been there against amnesty of any kind. Illegal aliens are criminals, they're here in violation of US immigration law, which makes them criminals the minute they enter the US or overstay a visa. We have enough thugs and murderers of our own to concern ourselves with, we don't need to import them. And everyone knew these "serious concerns" when the Congress in its infinite stupidity proceeded to fund DHS, knowing full well it is both inept and corrupt and has openly stated it is refusing to do the job it's paid by taxpayers to do. So why pay them? Why keep them? Defund the whole kit and caboodle and shut it down. Pass a 10 Year Moratorium on Immigration and stop this madness in its tracks so no Governor, no President, no state, local or federal agency and no Judge can permit any new alien, let alone illegal aliens, to come to or remain in the United States on any permit other than tourist, student and business visitor visas so long as no work permit is associated with the visa.

Proof that someone in government is incapable of making common sense judgments, certainly bad decisions are the rule here. DACA, a poor to very bad decision, approving his amnesty while pending deportation hearing, a poor decision lacking common sense, many congresses over time......

well, you got the idea, we have had poor government in the USA for quite some time, and I still do not see an end to it! Politicians become wealthy and powerful while American voters slumber?

It will end when politicians like Obama and government officials like Jeh Johnson are held accountable for the actions of foreign persons they allowed to enter or remain in the US because they either broke the law or failed to enforce it that result in crimes, harm and death to Americans.

The original suspect in the murder of an America’s Next Top Model contestant and three others was scheduled to be ejected from the US in 2012 but was granted deferred deportation under President Obama’s amnesty policy, it was revealed today.

Emmanuel Jesus Rangel-Hernandez, 19, was arrested last month in connection to atriple-homicide in Charlotte, North Carolina, that claimed the lives of aspiring model Mirjana Puhar, 19, her 23-year-old boyfriend Jonathan Alvarado, and 21-year-old Jusmar Isiah Gonzaga-Garcia.

His alleged accomplice, 19-year-old David Ezequel Lopez, was taken into custody Thursday and jailed on three counts of first-degree murder.

According to a statement released by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican, and GOP Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Rangel was permitted to stay in the country under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Records indicate Rangel, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was placed in the removal process by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement after being charged with drug violations in March 2012.

On December 18, 2012, however, removal proceedings were dismissed because Rangel was approved for deferred action under the DACA policy, despite his suspected affiliation with a street gang, of which ICE was allegedly aware.

‘This raises serious concerns about USCIS’s review and approval of other DACA applicants and points to potential vulnerabilities in the system’ Senators Grassley and Tillis wrote in a letter sent in February to the to the Department of Homeland Security requesting information about Rangel’s status.

Under the amnesty program, which was enacted by President Obama's executive action, more than 675,000 young immigrants since August 2012 have been granted a work permit and reprieve from deportation.

Republicans have long decried Obama's executive immigration as a form of backdoor amnesty that circumvents Congress.

Homeland Security Department documents say participation in the program can be revoked at any time. US Citizenship and Immigration Services, which approves applications, reported to the House Judiciary Committee last year the government stripped that protection from 113 people as of August.

The revocations included one case of gang membership, one aggravated assault, 11 driving-under-the-influence cases and 11 errors by USCIS, according to the committee.

As recently as last week, 15 criminal immigrants protected form deportation under DACA were arrested in raid carried out by federal agents.

On Thursday, a second suspect David Ezequel Lopez, 19, was charged with killing the former America's Next Top Model contestant, her boyfriend and another man, in what police were calling a drug-related attack.

Lopez, 19, was questioned Thursday night and charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection to the triple-homicide that claimed the lives of aspiring model Mirjana Puhar, 19, her 23-year-old boyfriend Jonathan Alvarado, and 21-year-old Jusmar Isiah Gonzaga-Garcia.

In late February, investigators arrested 19-year-old Rangel and charged him with the slayings, which have been described as drug-related.

Rangel has also been charged in a separate murder that occurred February 22. He is one of three people charged in connection with a homicide at a motel in Matthews, police said.

On Thursday, Lopez voluntarily came to police headquarters to be interviewed. He was then transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Police would not say exactly what role Lopez played in the Norris Avenue murders.

The Serbian national appeared in the modeling show's 21st cycle, which began airing last August.

Daily Mail Online reported last month that the 19-year-old fashionista was shot in the head as she opened the door to two robbers, who then killed her boyfriend, Alvarado, and his roommate, Gonzaga-Garcia.

James Jackson, the stepfather of Alvarado,23, said robbery was the reason behind the shooting, explaining that Emmanuel Rangel got the wrong impression that Alvarado had a lot of money on hand after he had paid $1,500 for a car the week before.

Crime scene: Puhar was reportedly shot in the head when she opened the door to the two suspects at this home in Charlotte, North Carolina

The father also revealed that his stepson, a recent transplant from Puerto Rico, and Puhar were planning to get married after dating for six months.

Alvarado openly talked about his drug habit, posted pictures of marijuana on his Facebook page along with those of friends brandishing guns, but Puhar's friends insisted that she never used narcotics.

They said it was iill fortune that put her 'in the wrong place at the wrong time' and saw her gunned down in the bungalow she shared with the two other victims.

The Charlotte Observer reported on Puhar's emerging career in a story published in 2014. She told the newspaper that her family fled Serbia after the Kosovo War and moved to North Carolina a decade later.

Puhar said she began modeling at age 12 and did runway shows at Charlotte Fashion Week. She said she had a troubled adolescence and eventually quit school.

'I was a wild child,' she said. 'I went out, had fun, partied, whatever - I didn't really have the best influences around me.'

Puhar reached the 10th episode of the current season of AMNT before she was eliminated from the competition

After dropping out of high school, Puhar decided to obtain her GED in 2013. Shortly after that, she was cast on "America's Next Top Model," a reality show on The CW network that pits aspiring models against each other.

In an interview with CW affiliate WCCB in Charlotte, Puhar described her experience on the show, including meeting co-producer and model Tyra Banks.

'She's amazing. She's definitely a great mentor,' Puhar said.

Puhar reached the 10th episode of the current season of the show before she was eliminated from the competition.

Banks and co-producer Ken Mok issued a statement mourning Puhar's death.

'We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic news about Mirjana Puhar. She was a vivacious and promising young woman. Our hearts and prayers go out to her loved ones,' the statement said.

What a terrible tragedy and horrible loss for her friends and family as well as those of the other 3 persons who were murdered by Obama's DREAMER Boy. He should be held accountable for this and every murder by illegal aliens in the US who should have been deported and haven't been. If he'd done his job according to law, these killers would have been deported along with all the other illegal aliens who aren't supposed to be here.

Judy, the comment, "If he'd done his job according to law....", arose emotions I felt, guess I still feel about Reagan. If Reagan had done his job according to law instead of signing than killer amnesty, Kevin may be alive, and todays alien mess would without doubt be much smaller.

Many, even most, politicians are accomplices in illegally killing Americans! It is a shame that voters send them back, then send them back, 2 years later send them back again, then send them back.......ad infinitum.

I know, and I so so so agree with you, kevinsdad. They are indeed accomplices and I truly don't know how families who have lost loved ones to the hands of illegal aliens deal with it. The hurt and anguish is so amplified for you and your family and all the other families who have suffered such a needless preventable loss. It's one thing to lose a loved one killed by one of our citizens, which is horrible enough, but at least one can accept the fact that amongst our citizen population we have killers that we can't avoid or do anything about until after they've taken a life or lives. But when it's an illegal alien we have laws and budgets to use to keep them out and if they somehow get in to promptly arrest and deport them, but instead our government ignores them, gives them free passes that citizens don't dare to dream about, let alone ever receive, and then our government dares to give illegal aliens amnesty and work permits and tax credits and welfare and "welcome" signs, encouragement, special schools, special training, and on and on and on, I just don't know how you all deal with it. I so admire all of you and the strength you have and the courage you carry and the determination to keep fighting this disaster so one day, it will stop.

One day it will. It's terrible so terrible that instead of solving the problem our government has escalated and proliferated the problem, but this is back-firing on them, they went so far that even the most complacent uninformed American is now asking "what in the hell is going on" and demanding an end to it. This issue will be the Number One Issue in all elections in 2016, and it will be due to you and the many other families who got involved to hold the line and stand our ground for our country and citizens so one day there will be no more Americans killed or harmed by illegal aliens in the United States.

Senator: Immigration policy allowed man in triple murder to stay in US

    Posted: 9:39 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis (R-98th District) spoke to Channel 9 about his claims that a White House immigration policy allowed a man who would later be charged with four murders in the Charlotte area to stay in the country.

Emmanuel Rangel avoided deportation on a previous arrest in 2012 through the government's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy.

He said lawmakers are trying to figure out if the system needs to be changed.

“I think that everybody agrees that we should not let people where there's some evidence that could represent a threat to society that they should be granted deferred action,” Tillis said.

In a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Tillis said immigration officials had full knowledge that Rangel was a known gang member.

Rangel was indicted in connection with a triple murder earlier this month.

Rangel and another man killed a former reality TV star and two men on Norris Avenue in Charlotte last month.

Rangel was also charged in a separate murder days before in Matthews.
