Action News Jax has learned the suspect in a deadly hit and run on Beach Boulevard has been deported three times dating back to 2009.

It’s part of new information we’re learning about the suspect who troopers say ran over a 28-year-old motorcyclist last week, killing him.

28-year-old Lester Bagalihog, who went by “Nicco” was killed in the crash. He was riding alongside his friend Ryan, another motorcyclist, when the Florida Highway Patrol said the two were slowing down for a red light. As they did that, troopers say Edwin Rumaldo Almendares Amaya hit and ran over Nicco and drove away; he was found and arrested the next morning.

Action News Jax learned from Immigration and Customs Enforcement he’s been deported three times in the past, is from Honduras and the agency addressed him with a different name to us. He was deported in 2009, again in 2013 and the latest was in 2017.

“Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer on Edwin Almendaris-Canisalles, 36, an unlawfully present citizen of Honduras, after his arrest by the Florida Highway Patrol on May 26. He has three previous removals from the U.S. in April 2009, February 2013, and September 2017. He has been convicted of robbery and twice for illegal re-entry after deportation,” A spokesperson for ICE told Action News Jax.

    • On March 15, 2009, The Dade County Judicial Court convicted and sentenced Almedaris-Canisalles to 90 days in custody for the charge of robbery.
    • On April 30, 2009, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) removed Almedaris-Canisalles from the U.S. from Miami, Fla., to Honduras.
    • On Aug. 14, 2012, U.S. Magistrate Court Del Rio, Texas, sentenced Almedaris-Canisalles to 30 days of custody of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons (BOP) for the offense of Illegal Entry under section 8 U.S.C. 1325(a) with three years of probation without supervised release.
    • On Feb. 25, 2013, ERO removed Almedaris-Canisalles from Miami, Fla., to Honduras.
    • On July 24, 2017, a U.S. Magistrate Court in Del Rio, Texas, convicted and sentenced Almedaris-Canisalles under 8 U.S.C. 1326(a) for Illegal Re-Entry after deportation to 10 months detention with credit for time served and three years’ probation.
    • On Sept. 22, 2017, ERO San Antonio removed Almedaris-Canisalles from the U.S. via ICE Air to Honduras.

Action News Jax also obtained the 911 calls in this crash.

“Has there been a traffic accident ma’am?” the operator says.

“Yes, there’s a motorcycle here,” a woman says.

“Was your vehicle involved in the accident?” the operator says.

“No, it was not, we were right behind the vehicle,” the woman says.

Nicco’s loved ones said he was a great person who worked hard and always made them smile.

“He never failed us to make us laugh,” Donna Ramos said at a vigil on Saturday. “He was just with us and next thing we know, he’s just gone.”

Bagalihog’s celebration of life and services will be from June 8 to June 9. It will be held at the Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Mary’s Georgia, the first viewing is on June 8 from 1-4p.m. and the last viewing will be on June 9 from 12-2 p.m. His graveside service will be 3-4 p.m.
