BREWSTER — A Connecticut man suspected of being in the country illegally from Guatemala is being held at the Putnam County jail after he showed up drunk at his ex-girlfriend’s home on the morning of Christmas Eve and fought with her father, police said.
Anibal Adolfo Madrid-Ramriez, 19, of 30 Oakland Ave., Danbury, Conn., was arrested after he arrived intoxicated at his ex-girlfriend’s Marvin Avenue home and demanded to see their infant daughter, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman refused to let him in . Madrid-Ramirez then began arguing with a member of the woman’s family before breaking a front-door window with his hand and forcing his way inside, police said. Once inside, Madrid-Ramirez punched the woman’s father in the face, police said.
The brawl spilled out onto the lawn, where other family members detained Madrid-Ramirez until Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies and investigators arrived, taking him into custody.
Police charged Madrid-Ramirez with first-degree burglary, a felony, as well as third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, misdemeanors. He was sent to the Putnam County jail, where a federal immigration detainer warrant was lodged because jail officials determined he was in the country illegally from Guatemala, police said.
If convicted of the most serious charge, Madrid-Ramirez could face up to 25 years in prison.
