Measure would have withheld funds over immigration issues

WASHINGTON - For the third time, the House has rejected a bid by Rep. Tom Tancredo to withhold homeland security funds from state and local governments that do not share information with federal immigration officials.

The amendment to a Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill failed Tuesday by a 258-165 vote.

In a brief floor speech, Tancredo alluded to the May 8 slaying of Denver police Detective Donald Young and an ongoing manhunt for suspect Raul Garcia-Gomez, an immigrant from Mexico.

Tancredo, R-Colo., is a vocal advocate of tougher immigration laws. He has repeatedly criticized Denver officials for not contacting immigration officials in the months leading up to the killing, when Garcia-Gomez was stopped for separate traffic violations.

He accused cities across the country of having a "don't ask, don't tell" policy when dealing with illegal immigrants.

"They stop and arrest criminal aliens time and again only to release them without having checked their immigration status," Tancredo said.

"These so-called 'sanctuary' policies are not only misguided and dangerous, they are also illegal," Tancredo said.

Denver officials have denied Tancredo's charge, saying city police do not operate under any "sanctuary" policy. They have said police do not have time to investigate the immigration status of every person stopped for a traffic violation, and believe enforcement is up to federal immigration officials.

Rep. Martin Sabo, D-Minn., called Tancredo's proposed legislation misguided, saying it would be hard to determine whether a city's policies amounted to "sanctuary."

He said the bill would have an unpredictable effect on federal funds going to thousands of state and local governments.

"We have real problems related to immigration," Sabo said. "To start harassing every unit of government, large or small, depending on what information they send to the federal government, I think is just a serious mistake."

Tancredo has proposed the same amendment each of the past three years, getting 102 votes in 2003, 148 in 2004 and 165 on Tuesday.

Colorado's congressional delegation split along party lines, with Republican Reps. Bob Beauprez, Joel Hefley, Marilyn Musgrave and Tancredo in favor, and Democratic Reps. Diana DeGette, John Salazar and Mark Udall opposed.

What you can't take the donut out of your mouth for five minutes to check a pilot program database to see if the prep is an illegal alien or not? This garbage about enforcement being a federal issue is a cop out. That's their way of merely passing the buck because they don't want to deal with the issue. Obviously they've also made enforcing laws such as murder, rape, gangbanging, drug peddling, human smuggling, etc a federal issue becasue apparently illegal aliens get away with these crimes on a daily basis. Our citizenary are getting raped, pillaged and plundered by the illegal alien invaders who are getting a free ride while destroying our nation while the local, state and federal government just sits on their behinds and do nothing. Yet heaven forbid if you the idiot sheeple break the laws of the land, then the local, state and federal governments will move heaven and earth to punish you. The laws only apply to the tax paying sheeple, but illegal aliens get a free ride at your expense.

Notice exhibits 2 a (1) and 2 b. I don't have the IQ of Albert Einstein nor do I have a degree from Harvard, Yale or Berkley nor do I have a college degree period and yet I was able to figure out what constitutes a sanctuary for illegal aliens, yet these do gooders claim it's hard to determine. Nonsense you idiots just determined it by saying you don't have time to check the immigration status of suspected criminals. So by not doing your job you have given sanctuary to these vermin.

So what? If your not willing to do your job then you don't deserve to get paid. Simple as that.

If you would do your job that you wouldn't have anything to worry about. What I mean by doing your job is more than just sitting at your desk, eating donuts and drinking starbucks all day while you file the occasional report. It means get off your duffs, untie the hands of the cops who actually do the real work and allow them to do their jobs.

It amazes me that they'll find every excuse in the book not to enforce the law, but god forbid someone steps on their toes and exposes them.

People of Colorado, there's your enemies right there. There's who you need to vote out of office. Remember who they are in 2006 and that they voted in favor of giving sanctuary to illegal alien criminals, especially those who murder cops.

It's time to remove those in power who side with criminals over the public.
