Task force releases suggestions for Phoenix PD

Sensitivity training for police officers, better oversight of internal investigations and cultural diversity are some of the suggestions between city leaders and a citizen task force looking into Phoenix police.

The group met three times and will offer final recommendations by October.

Other suggestions may include ordering officers to carry business cards with their badge numbers and supervisors' contact information to avoid confusion with residents who want to file complaints about officer misconduct.

Phoenix City Manager David Cavazos set up the task force in March after City Councilman Michael Johnson, an African-American, claimed his civil rights were violated by a White police officer who placed him in handcuffs.
