Bradley County Deals with Illegal Immigration

Bradley County Commissioner Jeff Yarber says illegal immigration has become a major problem.

Yarber says Bradley County is becoming a "sanctuary" for immigrants looking for work and a place to live.

Tonight commissioners will try to figure out a way to curb the growing number of illegal immigrants...

One idea is to go after the people who hire and house them.

Commissioner Jeff Yarber: "[We should] hold renters responsible who rent to illegals...hold people who have companies and employ illegal immigrants hold them some folks say that's the first step."


Mondays meeting will begin at the Bradley County Courthouse in Cleveland at 7:00.

Just enforce the prevailing traffic laws - maybe impound vehicles for no DL, etc.

Enforce the zoning, littering, shotlifting, and loitering laws. That will go a long way.

One of them has an email address, which I used to contact him. In addition to recommending 287g, I mentioned required PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP for state or local benefits.

I also recommended they solicit the state for legislation, including STATEWIDE 287g, and several other items.

This issue is a growing one in Bradley County. Contact the Commissioners who are listed. The Mayor, Gary Davis, is assoicated with an organization that the news says assists illegal aliens, the Ocoee Regional Multicultural Services. Mayor Davis and the County Commission did not give the Sheriff the funds to hire two officers to train for the 287 (g). One law enforcement officer said that the Sheriff should have the drug task members trained at least and that the Sheriff could apply for grants to help with costs.
