Man with HIV charged with attacking officer

May be placed on immigration hold

A Dalton man who was being booked at the Whitfield County Jail on battery and traffic charges Thursday was also charged with biting a booking officer and trying to infect him with HIV after refusing to be fingerprinted, officials said.

Ruperto Velasquez-Bravo, 26, of 1009 Frances St., was charged by the Dalton Police Department with failure to yield, battery, driving without a valid license and hit and run. He was charged by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with assault by an HIV-infected person on a law enforcement officer and willful obstruction of an officer by threat or violence.

Capt. Wesley Lynch of the sheriff’s office said Velasquez-Bravo became hostile when officers tried to “printâ€
